Although the Mercury is the smallest High Resolution
sonar in the world, there are some small ROV's which
require the sonar transducer and electronics to be separated
to ease installation and not affect the ROV's performance.
The Mercury Remote Head was designed to enable the
Mercury to be used on vehicles such as the Videoray,
where the electronics can be inserted into an extended
Videoray body, or the Outland ROV.
The benefit - The Sonar head can be well positioned
to get a clear view of the surroundings, whilst the
electronics can be safely inserted within the vehicles
pod, or within its frame.
